First we have to understand a little bit of background about LCD screens to know why we should be careful when cleaning. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display; which has crystal molecules sandwiched under layers of polarized panels. These panels are usually made of "plastic-like" polymer materials, and like any plastics they can be easily scratched or gouged, even by just your fingernails! That's why cleaning LCDs requires special care while cleaning compared to the old glass CRT monitors!

* What You'll Need

- rubbing alcohol (aka isopropyl alcohol)

- distilled water (not tap water!)

- A soft cloth (lint-free)

* Steps

1. Dilute the rubbing alcohol into a mix with about 50% alcohol and the rest distilled water.

2. Pour this solution into a spray bottle. Old Windex bottles are good as they spray in a mist pattern with just the right amount to get good coverage on your screen. The spray bottles that squirt a single stream tend to drip solution all over the place.

3. Spray the mix onto a soft lint-free cloth. Old t-shirts and microfiber car wash cloths are both good choices. Large cloths are better since it helps to reduce the risk of leaving streaks on the screen from too much pressure.

4. Gently wipe the cloth on the screen in a circular consistent motion. Apply even pressure to the cloth and be careful not to push too hard, or scrape the screen with your fingernails!

* Suggestions

- Costly products that you buy at the "computer screen cleaning" aisle of your local computer store contain the same basic ingredients of alcohol and water! Some even contain other harmful chemicals such as ethylene glycol, which may be ok on older glass CRT monitors, but should NOT be used on LCD screens! Some of the extra chemicals can also be harmful to the environment and to your health.

- Be sure to use Mineral water! Not tap water; you don't want hard mineral spots on your screen.

- Don't use tissue paper; they will leave lint and spots of paper stuck to your monitor. Also they're too thin, risking damage from your fingernails poking through.

- Don't apply too much solution. If you do, just wipe it off with the cloth and use less.

- You can also use lint-free lens wipes from photography stores, but they're thinner so be careful about your fingernails poking through.

- For a cheap ready-made solution from the store, you can also use CD/DVD cleaner, It's already designed to be plastic-safe, and is a simple solution of about 50% isopropyl alcohol.

* Some Precautions

- Don't use Windex or other glass cleaners! These contain ammonia, which is ok for glass, but WILL hurt your LCD screen!

- Try not to use the really cheap paper towels, like the tough brown ones in public washrooms. They can scratch your screen.

- Be sure to shut down your computer and your monitor, then unplug from the wall. This reduces the risk of electric damage in case you spill some of the solution on components.

- Don't drink isopropyl alcohol! It's toxic!

- If you aren't sure, you can test a small corner of the screen first.

'This will accommodate an under-counter fridge, oven, hob, sink with a concealed bin, a slimline dishwasher and storage while still providing the minimum distance requirement between the sink and hob.'

o 'We installed a raised walk-in shower where the floor lifts up to reveal a bath,' says architect Paul McAneary. 'It also turns into a steam cabin, so it's multifunctional and compact.'

In order to create a peaceful retreat, a bedroom needs to be as clutter-free as possible. Most people have a considerable amount of clothing, so first-class storage is essential. Built-in storage systems eat up less floor space than freestanding furniture. 'When planning your hanging space, measure the length of your clothes rail, then add 20 per cent,' advises Peter Friend of Hülsta.

o Recoup valuable space by forgoing bedside tables. Instead, install a shelf on the wall behind the bed that can be used for bedtime reading material and an alarm clock.
o You can't compromise on the size of your bed, but you can try to make it work harder. Underbed boxes or beds with built-in drawers or shelves utilise the redundant area underneath. Flip-up beds also ensure space is put to good use. Remember, too, that low-level beds are less visually dominating than lofty princess-and-the-pea style ones.
o Fold-down beds used to be cumbersome and ugly, but now there are some really well-designed models. They can be expensive, but if you have a studio and are going to be using it every day rather than in a guest room, then it's essential to invest. A pull-down bed combined with a pull-down desk can make a small spare room a really multifunctional space.
o 'A sleeping space doesn't necessarily need to be fully enclosed,' says Elizabeth Wilhide, author of Small Spaces. 'Screening a space with a partition or sliding doors can provide privacy without blocking light. Or, in an open-plan area, a mezzanine or raised platform divides things up.'

First and foremost, you have to decide where you're going to put your shiny new speakers. More specifically, I'm talking about: are they going to go outside. Make a mental note of the positions and how you liked the sound and then change the controls again. This is the only way that I have ever found to hone in that subtle and elusive "perfect sound", but after it is all said and done you will have the joy of knowing that you're getting the maximum experience out of your home ceiling speakers.

There appears to be no end to the improvements and innovations that TV wall brackets have undergone over the past years. Starting off as a simple flush TV bracket with no other function except to mount the television on the wall like a painting, it has progressed into tilt, swivel and articulating features. All the prior models were focused on the wall. The corner TV bracket appeared to be closest to having one on the ceiling. It attached partly on the wall and the ceiling to provide the corner TV bracket facility. It was considered a great breakthrough in design and functionality since the corner is envisioned to be the most unused portion of the wall. It showed great potential since viewing was possible in almost every part of the room. It became a challenge to designers and manufacturers to discover something better than a corner TV bracket. The latest model is the ceiling TV bracket which appeals to the individual as well as a group. For individual viewing experiences, visualize a person lying down and watching a television set hanging from the ceiling. In that aspect, the ceiling TV bracket seems to be more of a personal item, allowing the person to watch the television program while lying down in bed. Lag bolts are provided with ceiling brackets. Use the lag bolts to fix the mounting plate by placing them through the mounting holes on the bracket. The back of the TV set and mounting plates should conform to VESA specifications. Check the VESA spacing measurement and mount the TV on the ceiling TV bracket by matching the holes on the rear of the television set. It is advisable to have a friend or family member hold the TV while you secure the bracket. Be sure all the bolts and screws are tightly secured and in place before letting go of the mounted television.

Power: If you can afford it, have an electrician install a power outlet near the location you will be installing your projector. If you don't have the budget, just buy an extension cord that closely matches the color of your wall and run the wires as cleanly as possible to the nearest outlet.

HDMI: You will need to run a HDMI cable from your receiver to your projector. It looks best if you run your wires in the wall or under the carpet. You may want to have a home theater installer handle this for you.

You will need to purchase a HDMI switch as most receivers have only 1 HDMI out connection.

Black Out Curtains: The black in a projected image comes from the black in the room so you need to keep your room as dark as possible when you are in Home Theater mode.
