How Long Do Plasma TVs Last?

In the not so distant past, it was not unusual to have a hard time hearing the volume of a plasma TV over the buzzing of the units cooling fans at work. These cooling fans were functioning regularly as the obsolete plasma TV could produce heat hot enough to cook eggs. It is no wonder that most of the early model plasma TV have already retired.

3. Always, take care that the plasma TV is in a well-ventilated area. Keeping the unit cool cuts down on the energy it takes for cooling, reducing the need for internal cooling fans and it also aids the phosphors in longer working time.

4. Do not let static images sit on the units TV screen for any length of time. Seven to ten minutes is about the longest that an image should be left to sit on a display screen. Image burn in and ghosting effects will cause the TV screen to wash out. DVD's should not be left on pause for more that 20 minutes.

5. When interior light is dim, always use a lower level of contrast. The use of lower leveled contrast or picture options will help extend the life span of a plasma TV. Normal interior lighting calls for no more than sixty percent a contrast level.

6. Remember that factory settings are always set higher for best viewing in a show room. Once at home, the setting options of contrast and brightness should be adjusted for home entertainment viewing.

7. Stay away from off brand plasma TV units or accessories that are not manufactured as well built or engineered as good brand name products. These may be cheaper, but in the long run, you get what you pay for.

8. When not in use turn your plasma TV off.

9. Keep small children away from a plasma TV.

10. Never, mount a plasma TV from the ceiling facing down.

Make the Perfect Pitching Mound

Here is a project that when at first may seem daunting, but if you put your mind to it one that can easily be accomplished. That is building a pitching mound. Yeah, sounds a bit scary, right? But with a simple plan and a bit of knowledge, you can tackle this project yourself and will not have to hire a special contractor for it.

The pitching mounds used in the ballparks are built according to a specific size, namely it has to be 10 1/2" inches tall and 18' inches in diameter. The size of the mound can affect the quality of the game, so keep it in mind.

There is more to creating a pitching mound than shoveling bucketfuls of sand onto a surface. To get the pitching mound up to par with what is used in the game, you must have the right tools and materials.

To get started prepare the following materials: silt, clay sand and a rubber mat measuring 24 x 6. For the tools, you need a wheelbarrow, stakes, some string, a measuring tape, a roller press, a rake and shovel.

You begin the process by mixing the silt, sand and clay. Do not just dump everything in at once; mix it properly about an inch at a time. Make sure each component is added in equal amounts. One of the reasons why a lot of pitching mounds do not function properly is that the material used consists only of sand or clay. It has to be a mix of all three, and they must be joined together.

Next use the roller press to spread out the soil until it covers a diameter of 18 inches and it is an inch high.

Take a stake and place it at the 10 inch spot in front of the circle and secure it with a string. From the 17 inch mark of this stake place another one behind the soil. Go around the initial stake you placed. The result will be a more conspicuous slope at the back of your pitching mound. Add some more material into this spot.

Repeat this process for the pitching mound until it reaches ten inches high. At the top, place a stake 10"x 6" just in front of the mound. From five feet behind put in another stake. At the left and right border of the mound place four stakes. Put in half an inch of the composite material you mixed. If you constructed the pitching mound properly, there will be a one inch slope per foot.

Use the roller press to strengthen it. It should be 5 inches wide and 10 ½ inches high. Now you can install the rubber mat. Just put a stake in the center of the mound, Put the mat two inches from the spot where you put the stake, Make sure the front of the mat is centered and that it is set into the soil so it does not move. Once this is done, the pitching mound is finished.

The AS2S is a bi-shelf cable management system. It can be used with or without a Plasma/LCD mount. Windows are one of the most essential features of a house and often define the difference between a house and what you might call a home. TV: LCD vs Plasma TV

If you are looking at getting a new TV, or building a home theater, then there is quite a bit of research to be done before you make the plunge. Right now there are two competing technologies for High Definition Flat Screen TV. The first is LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and the second Plasma TV. Both will offer a great picture, perfectly flat screens which will keep your straight lines looking straight, and immunity from magnetic distortion, but which technology is better? What are their prospective pros and cons? Read on for more information.

Before I get into what you should buy, you should get the "how does it work run down", the quick and dirty edition. It is quite difficult to compare two competing technologies because they tend to be, by nature, apples and oranges. This is why it helps to know your fruit. Plasma and LCD TV's generate their pictures in extremely different ways. A Plasma TV's pixel consists of gas-filled cells coated with a phosphorescent material. When an electrical current charges the gas in a cell, it makes the coating glow. However, in an LCD TV, the pixels are liquid crystal cells placed over a fluorescent backlight. The cells opacity varies in response to an electrical signal, passing or blocking the light. This method has been used for computer monitors for quite some time.

Burn in has plagued the plasma TV's reputation while the LCD is seen as a "view from the front" only TV, but recent technological advances have decreased the gap between these two competing technologies. Plasma TV's are now more resistance to burn in and ship with screen savers while LCD's have increased viewing angles. So what is the difference? Well, first things first. It is no coincidence that major TV manufacturers are offering plasma TV's at the top of their lineup while placing LCD's at their entry level positions. One reason for this is the fact that LCD's are not economical in larger sizes. It is very uncommon to see a LCD with a screen size larger than 40". Also, If you are looking at screen sizes under 37", an LCD is your only flat panel choice.

In my opinion, overall there is still a gap large enough to have a clear winner. I feel that for large cinema type applications you will be better off with a plasma solution. Plasma will give you a slightly better picture with brighter colors and more contrast at larger sizes. LCD however is great for an extra TV and if you watch your power bill, you will be happy to know that an LCD will use much less power than a Plasma of the same size.

So if you need a flat screen for the kitchen, you will not be disappointed with the convenience of a LCD TV. If you are looking at a TV in a size that does overlap technologies, then you must decide which to go with. I would choose a plasma TV in most cases over an LCD TV of the same size. I feel the advantages of the plasma's picture quality outweigh the cons of the LCD's advantages which also happen to be quickly disappearing as the plasmas technology matures.
